Hurricane under my bedroom door...

I noticed today (not sure how many years it's been doing this) that with the HVAC system off, a huge amount of air is blowing out from under the bedroom door towards the rest of the house.

It's enough wind that if I drop a tissue next to the bottom of the door it easily tumbles/rolls away.

Is this weird or normal? Is it a concern?

For that to be happening, there must be air blowing into the room.

Find out where.

It could just be air coming through the duct work due to convection. Nothing to worry about. It could be blowing in through gaps from the outside. That is something to address.

You said you air was off, but I'll ask if you are positive of that. Maybe your fan was still running if you had just turned it off at the thermostat. It sounds to me like your return air was running.

If your air was running, then there's nothing to worry about. Your system moves air at a certain number of CFM. The pressure built up in the room tries to escape and it does so under the door. Since the cross sectional area of the gap is small, the velocity of the air flow increases in an attempt to relieve the building pressure on the other side of the door.

Thanks for the information!!

I must have been crazy and did not notice the heat was on because I tested it all day yesterday and only noticed a draft under the door when the heat was on.

Amazing how much air was being pulled out of the bedroom!

If there is no return air duct register in that bedroom then air will come out from under the door when the heat is on.
The good conscientious technician or serviceperson will carry extra oils and lubricants in case the new pump did not come with oil or the oil was accidentally spilled, so the service call can be completed without an extra visit.
