How to mount a ceiling fan to an overhead beam

Hello,
I want to mount a ceiling fan to an overhead beam. The beam splits the room in two and will not be covered in sheetrock. The width of the beam is approximately 6". If I attach a ceiling fan box to the bottom of the beam, then the fan housing sticks out over the side (unless I find a fan with a small enough housing). Is there a side mount kit or some other way to make this work. Thanks for the help.
Mike

How to mount a ceiling fan to an overhead beam

Is this a solid or load bearing beam? How much does the base extend beyond the 6" width? Maybe you can widen the beam in the area of the box by adding 1x? to both sides with some decorative edge treatment. How do you plan to route the wires??

I like to use a fan rated pancake box. Sometimes I'll paint it.
