How do you paint Simipson Strong Tie?

We are re-building our deck (as previously posted)...

It is time to hook up the railing to the posts. We plan to use this to hold the railing. Is it a good idea? It just seems like a very strong and safe way to securely connect the two.

Now, we would like to paint it black. What is the best way so it stays black? We were thinking about just using a spray-paint it before installation. Do we need to prime it?

thank you for your insight.

I would not use them. I would suggest carriage bolts through the uprights for your railing.

Painting galvenzied steel can be done but requires a great deal of surface prep, otherwise it just peels off. Do a google search and you'll get plenty of good info if you choose to go that route. Don't take shortcuts, if you do the paint will peel and you'd have been better off just using them as you bought them

Save yourself the time & headache and find some black brackets. You'll pay a lot more, but you'll be much happier in the long run
