How do you install a range hood?

There wasn't a previous installation so there aren't any wires for me to connect to it. Is there an adapter I can buy so that I can plug it into an outlet? TIA

Hi,

An electrician can tell you better how to fish a wire through the wall for the new hood....a plug or cord ran from the unit and plugged into the wall would normally just get in the way of the installation.

Yeah I'm not going to pay an electrician just for that unless he's willing to do it for me for free while he's here working on something else.

If you want to go cheap on this one: It's easy,...

Go to your local "Big home Style" Store and you can purchase from the electrical dept.

1.) A normal plug to wire your fan to....they do sell them.
2.) Extra wiring to run your line to an outlet.
2.) Plastic cover with adhesive backing. (Like a white plastic conduit) - to go over the wiring that you run to a live outlet.

Easy and cheap.

If there was no previous hood to give you existing wiring, that tells me there is also no previous ductwork for venting. If you are running a new vent, you must have access to either an outer wall or an attic above. (If you are planning on one of those recirculating hoods you should save both the cost of the hood and the electrician. in other words they don't do anything but suck the dirty air from above the stove and blow it back in your face). Either way that should give you ample opportunity to wire this thing safely and in a visually acceptable manner. I have seen some pretty strange things in my time, but never anyone run a vent hood on an extension cord. Any half decent electrician can safely get you power... or do you plan to rewire correctly while repairing the damage from the electrical fire?
