Question

How do I cut a hole in the bottom of a pail?

Hey guys,

I need to get a hole in the bottom of this 5-gallon pail, it's being attached to PVC and it doesn't matter if the hole is a circle (like drawn on it) or if it's a square or whatever, as long as it's big and it fits within the circle.

But how the heck do I get a chunk within the circle out?

I don't have any fancy machinery and then the tools that I do have are all dead. And after spending $56 on PVC and crap today I guarantee I'm not going to be buying anything else for the next week.

Any help would be appreciated.

Work a small cut with a utility knife (away from your line toward the center) and then take a tin snips/aviation snips and work your way over to the line and cut it out.

Find a can the same size as your hole. Heat it up and melt a perfect round hole. Or cut saw teeth in the edge and use it like a saw.

Drill a couple of holes in a row to form a slot along the intended cut line, then insert a hacksaw blade and cut away. Surely you want this hole bad enough to invest a couple of dollars in a hack saw blade.

As for the utility knife cutting through a five gallon pail, make an appointment at the local doctors office first, one who is good at stitching things back together.

Easiest one of course is a jig saw. Don't you have friends with tools
