How come no one uses epoxy for showers?
After tiling a shower surround, wouldn't it make sense to coat the tile / grout with epoxy, both to ensure it was water tight and to keep mold from forming in the grout?

I could see epoxy being a slipping hazard on the floor, unless mixed with aggregate, but on the walls, wouldn't it make sense?

Tile and mortar should be able to breathe. And, if you seal it in epoxy and you bang the stuff and create a micro crack or fissure and water gets behind it. A royal mess is suddenly created. And with good tile and mortar there is no need for it so why put out the extra expense even if it did work.

There are epoxy grouts that are highly stain resistant.

About all I use are epoxy grouts--I don't mention it often as they are a bit difficult to use--

When you put the second Red Gard coat down... embed some nylon window screen.
Then do the epoxy coat.
