Hiring guys to do work without a contractor Safe or Not Worth Liability wise?
I need to have some work done on my house. My parents are currently having a very large remodel on their house. The contractor that is doing the remodel is very well known and his crew does great work. They have done many projects for my parents in the past. The contractor (that my parents are using) offered to let me hire a few of his men for their usual hourly rate and he won't take any fee. However, that being said he mentioned that they wouldn't be covered by his workers comp insurance. I appreciate his willing to do this but is it worth hiring these guys at the risk of them having no workers comp insurance? Also would a hold harmless contract work and protect me from liability in case something happened. Any info would be appreciated.
