Can the the DX 460 be used to attach a piece of gage 14 to a sheet of gage 18 steel?
I tried the lowest setting and got deformation of the base material and the nail was not secure.

I have never seen any manufacturer give any kind of data for a base material thinner than 1/8" ASTM A36 steel. 18 gage is less than 1/16"

Nailing two piece of sheet metal together?? I don't think that is what those nailers are designed for. If you want to nail those to a concrete wall or floor, that might work. I would expect the nail to blow right thru 18ga, and maybe thru 14ga. I have nailed 2x to a steel beam, but not thin sheet steel.

Totally inappropriate tool for what you're trying to do. If you want to fasten to pieces of sheet metal together, use blind rivets.
