Question

help identify black hair like

I'm really worried about this that I found in our living room coming down from my next to the wall.
Can anyone help identify it? the hair like strands will move if you tap the wall, they are loosely hanging it seems.
Husband is at work and said he is going to get it removed as soon as he comes home.

If I'm in the wrong place please forgive me as I have no idea what this is in the image.

Thanks for any help.
Jessica

I would venture to guess it is some form of fungus (mold). Is the ceiling wet where it is attached to the ceiling, like from a leaky roof?

It is mold, and from the looks of things you have a leak up there somewhere. That section of the drywall should come out and be replaced, and the leak repaired.

Pretty sure you know but when you remove it you might want to where a respirator or at least a dust mask noish rated for mold spore. You dont want to be breathing in the spores when you are removing it. You never know what might be farther into the drywall. Be safe

my husband removed it last night when i was at a bridal shower and I stressed to him that I wanted the pets and kids out of the house and a mask on him when he did it i naturally worry way too much. He smiled and said ok
I thought if THAT was growing there, never know what else, mold, ect.
I thought those were roots to something really, so I was picturing a bunch of mushrooms up there
