Help!!!

This is not a joke. The big spring at the top of the garage door broke and we are stuck in the house because both cars were in the garage when it broke. I disengaged the track from the automatic opener but it didn't help. It won't budge..... It is Friday night and I don't think places like Overhead door will open before Monday...Does anyone have any suggestions???? Getting a little panicked.

If the opener is disconnected from the door it should open, however it's probably going to take a lot of muscle to do it (especially if it's a double door). Once you get it up you'll have to prop it to keep it from slamming down; that can be accomplished by using c-clamps or vice-grips on the track and bottom rollers, or with boards sized to the door height.

Help!!!

Thank you for your answer.... Sounds a little too risky for us. I can just imagine the door crashing down as we were backing out and squashing us. Plus, we are not exactly strong nor do we have any clamps or boards...I thought maybe there was something simple I just wasn't doing--- guess not.... I will try calling overhead door's emergency number and getting mentally prepared to pay the price for that.

I appreciate your help.

Help!!!

Do you have any tools in the garage?
If so you could take the door apart panel by panel.

Maybe ask a few neighbor's to help hold the door open so you can get a car out to hold you over until Monday? G/L

Help!!!

If you can lift the door, something like a rake or a long handled shovel can be used to prop the door up.
Even better would be 2 boards, cut to the right length and placed at each end.
