Health safe coating for inside of rice bin

We have a rice bin that is filled from the top and has 3 levers at the bottom to dispense various amounts of rice. I notice that the abrasion of the rice on the inside of the bin is starting to wear away the paint coating the inside of the bin. As a temporary measure, I've lined the inside of the bin with a non-insecticide trash bag which is held in place by tape at the top of the bin.

I want to coat the inside of the bin with something that is durable and safe health wise. Or maybe line the inside with thin sheets of something that is glued in place. The sheets would have to be flexible to fit through the top opening which is smaller than the inside of the bin. The cross section of the bin is square, 12" x 12" and is 16" high.

Any suggestions?

What about a stainless insert.

Hmmmmm.......painted food dispensing system doesn't sound right to me, sure hope its not lead based paint of a product made in the far east.

I go with Ron's suggestion, line it with stainless steel, or quit using it altogether.

Any suggestions on where to buy really thin sheets of "quality" stainless steel cheap?

Much of the stainless steel from China has a high iron content and can rust. At a True Value store, I was looking for small stainless steel sheets for a different project about a year ago, and the sheets stuck to a magnet - worthless stainless steel sheets.

Talk to a local shop. You can get food grade stainless online and have formed into a bin, just do a search. Easy to create the bin, if you have a brake press and sheers, otherwise, it will be a pita to do it. Can you post a picture of this device in question? I use Plastic storage containers, due to after a while, they wear out, such as you have, due to the huls of the rice act like sandpaper.

I would go to a metal fabricating shop, there they will can even cut it to a pattern you supply. But I know it won't be cheap.

You could look for a sheet of formica (counter top) to line the inside, high lubricity and very cleanable.

My concern also. Only saving grace now (hope after the fact) is that the bin is an older one and was made in Japan, not China.

The formica idea would be much cheaper than food grade stainless steel.
