Have inenffecent fireplace, would like options

I currently have this fireplace in my house and it isnt very efficent at all. I would like to either replace it or put an insert into it, but I am not sure what my options are. Thanks in advance...

Have it inspected by a chimney guy.. I dunno if that pipe is good for anything but maybe gas logs...

That is the old pipe. I have since replaced it with 8 inch double wall pipe straight out the roof.

That being the case then an insert with closing doors and a blower would be much more effecient.
