Hardware for Porch Screen Door

The issue I am wondering about has to do with the hardware for my screen door.

When I bought the door, I picked up this piece.

It looks like a good fit in the picture, but the door latch, as I positioned it, does not close unless I remove some of the molding.

I practiced creating the space with a piece of scrap and I my router. I can do it better than this, but this is the general idea.

Curious if this is the type of hardware you would use for a porch door.

I did find a picture of the exact door that I have.

Does anyone know what the piece on the bottom left is? Is that a lock?

As always, thanks for taking a look.

Is this the only piece I need to buy?

http://www.amazon.com/Battalion-1RBW4-Screen-Catch-Steel/dp/B001H4SKPA

Or do I have to purchase both? (see frequently purchased together) Looks like I will need both.

thanks for your help:thumbsup:
Hi Joe - I don't think you need both. They are both just spring loaded overcenter latches. They are not locks though. I dunno about Amazons marketing programs. I think they are supposed to present complimentary items to what you are looking at but in this case they seemed to present duplicate items... both those do the same job.:)

thanks, John, I appreciate the help.

One more thing. Since I won't be using the door handle pictured above, so that I can avoid having to notch the molding, any chance there is a handle/knob available that will cover up these holes. Not sure filling them will look good.

Referring to the first picture you posted with the parts I think the silver piece in the top of the picture is supposed to mount on the surface of the door frame and the handle part then would need to be re onunted further back so that it would latch with that part. The sets I use always come with a spring loaded thing. It takes precise measuring to get the two parts to latch together without sticking or missing. ther should be room to fine tune adjust both parts.

That flipper latch on the outside ff the door needs to go.
Reason being those vinyl doors are really flimsy in the first place and everytime the door is opened and closed it's going to try and twist the door.
I always install a turn buckle on them because they start to sag within a year of installing them.

thanks guys,

so, just to be sure, you guys recommend that I do not use the front catch that I was originally asking about.

Regarding the scratches, I think I found a slight dimple on the router plate that is causing the problems.

My first time using the router on a project, so I was pleased, and then I saw the scratches!!

This is Azek, hopefully I can get rid of them.
