hanging Lincrusta embossed wallpaper on my ceiling

I have ceilings that are painted a flat or eggshell. Before I hang the Lincrusta wallpaper, can I just sand the ceiling? Or is using lining paper / wallpaper liner better for adhesion? If you don't know, Lincrusta is pretty thick (1/16 to 1/8 inch thick) and heavy.

I have never had and issue with wallpaper sticking to eggshell walls before. Is there some sort of counter indication from the wallpaper manufacturer?

The manufacturer recommends lining paper, but I don't really see how it helps in my situation yet. Lincrusta is closer to vinyl than paper and, as I said, quite thick.

I would follow the instructions which most likely say to prime with a wall covering primer as well as lining.

I would suggest sanding down the ceiling with a mirka deros or something similar to give a good key, seal the whole area with a thinned pva mix then follow instructions on how to apply the lincrusta. I presume you are going to use the required lincrusta glue?
