Default Granite Repair?

I have a dining table with granite panels that seems to have been etched by a styrofoam cup. Unsure if that is actually what is called etching, but the surface now has a dull discolored circle. On wood it would be a water spot, anyway I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone give me guidance without having to call a stone restoration company.

Thanks,

Could you post a picture? Styrofoam is prettty inert when it comes to granite. What was in the cup? What type of granite was this?
