Gluing backers in fiberglass/acrylic shower for grab bars

I'm about to attach plywood backers in a shower surround for grab bars. We don't have time to wait for a unit with the plywood already installed. I've done this before with tile mastic, but wondered if anyone has experience with this. The liquid nails tubes say not to use on plastic. This is your typical Sterling fibergalss/acrylic type unit. They call the product vikrell.

Liquid Nails makes various adhesives for different materials. Just get the one for your application.
