Garage main wont reset

I added a 100amp garage breaker box about 15yrs ago off my 200amp main. Everything has been fine but as of today the garage main won't reset. I usually turn off the garage main when not in use. Checked the 100amp breaker at the main and is still active. Turned off the main breaker at source and still tripped at garage when tried.

Is it safe guess to say the garage main has been manually reset so much its finally worn out? Thx Jack

Garage main wont reset

Agree..... That is the likely problem.....

But.... if you can't reset your feed at the sub, you can't know that the breaker at your main is NOT tripping because of no fault... ie... that you do not have a fault downstream of your sub..

Different breakers will not trip simultaneously.

Tried shutting off all the breakers in the panel in the garage to see if it will reset?
If it resets then, start turning on the breakers one at a time to find the line with the possible fault.
Really should not be using a breaker as a switch.

If, by this, you mean the 200 was turned off then the 100 was turned on (and stayed on) and when the 200 was turned back on the 100 tripped, then you almost certainly have a fault downstream from the 100.

Breakers are not designed to be used as switches unless they are marked SWD. The only SWD breakers I've seen are 15s and 20s.
