Garage door hard to open

I have a Wayne Dalton garage door about 10 years old and a Genie opener about 2 years old. For the past few weeks I have noticed that the door opens in a jerky fashion. Today it would only open about 6 inches. I sprayed some lubricant on the rollers. After a few more tries it did open but when I closed it it still seemed jerky. I am reluctant to open it again, as it's about 10 degrees here and I don't want to make the house too cold. Our pet bunny's hutch is also in the garage and I don't want to freeze out her as well. Any ideas on why the door is so jerky? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Like vsheetz said, start with pulling the disconnect cord on the opener and see if you can lift it by hand. If the spring is broke, you will know right away. Wayne daltons are built pretty light (weight wise). They use a couple of different spring setups. Make sure all the rollers are in place and cables running up the sides are intact. If a cable breaks, it will make the door very difficult to open. I would recommend calling a local garage door repairman. If you aren't experienced with garage doors, it's not a good diy project. Very easy to get hurt. If you need a new spring(s), or cables, it's not a real expensive repair. Let us know what you find.
