Front door exterior trim

My front door trim outside was never painted. It only had primer on it and now it is starting to chip away. I sanded the chip away pieces off. Do I need to scrap off all of the primer? Most of it is on there pretty good.

Front door exterior trim

you only need to scrape off the loose pieces. then sand edges to feather. Prime again, then two top coats of acrylic latex.
