Found in Alaska
Actually it was not lost. On a recent trip to Fairbanks, AK, my daughter's boyfriend had told me about a rather small, hard-to-find road to get pictures of the Alaska pipeline that normally you don't see. While driving up the mountain on this small road I see this "thing" and just had to stop and look at it closer. Turns out it is an "ore crusher". I did research and found out it was built somewhere between 1840-1660, the only years this company built them in San Francisco, CA. Then I had to sit back and think as to how it came to be out in this obscure area north of Fairbanks, way back then. Pretty impressive feat to get this from CA. to Fox, AK. It's a primarily wooden structure, with cast iron parts and still in great shape actually. Oh Yeah--the flywheel is approximately six feet in diameter. Thanks, David
