fixing my chainsaw

my grandfather recently gave me his chainsaw. it has seen a lot of use, but it's well maintained. when i first got it, it would start for a second then stall. so i cleaned the air filter and spark plug. now when it runs, the engine boggs down every 3-5 seconds. any ideas what's causing this or how to fix it?

Could need a carb cleaning and/or adjustment

Some 2 strokes have to run on half choke for a bit. After it stalls, try restarting it on half choke; if it starts, let it run and then open the choke.

What RJ says, sometimes those little engines require a warm up period, before cutting.

I use my chain saw at most twice a year. Sometimes less. I leave gas in it year round. I do, however use stable in the gas. With that said, every 3 to 4 years I need to remove the carb and open it all up. I spray everything with carb cleaner then put it back together. Then it runs like new.
