Fixing Leg Rest Bar - Chairs

Hi all,

I got a bunch of brand new chairs that I really like, but the only problem is that the front chrome rest bar has a lot of play in it and when people rest their legs on it, it falls out. The bar does not sit snug enough and moves around too much...one day someone had their leg in and bc theres so much play, it was sitting all the way at the edge and the weight cracked the wood in half on the leg.

I like the chairs, I kind of want to keep them so i'm wondering is there something I can renovate to keep the metal bar from not moving around? Can I drill a long screw through the leg and metal bar, or are there long studs that can be punctured through? What would be the cleanest way to do this so the chairs still look good?

Looking for advise and suggestions please
