Filling hole in concrete floor?

At the bottom of my basement stairs is a hole approximately 1 1/2- 2" wide and 6" or so deep. I believe it was where the railing for the stairs was anchored into the concrete but I'm not sure. I am having new carpet installed on 01/06 and I need to know the best product for filling in the hole. I don't know if ground water has ever come up through it, but I want to fill it and seal it to make sure none does come up. I have some left over Quickcrete bags from when I had an All-Dry waterproffing system put in. Would that be sufficient or should I use something else?

line the hole with black builders plastic and fill it with concrete
if u want to seal it you can but i wouldn't waste my time if i were you the plastic is sufficient enough
