fanning fiberglass in attic - dumb idea?

I need to go in my attic again tonight to finish a ceiling mounted projector installation.

I'm in FL and that ceiling is a nightmare (mostly because of how damn small it is, and how much smaller it is in the spot I need to be), but the heat is just another pita up there.

I was thinking to just put a big fan in its entry port to the garage for a while before going in to cool it, but afraid I'll create a dust cloud of fiberglass that's not good to be breathing.

Fan or not?

As long as its not blowing across the insulation it should be o.k. but the key think is appropriate breathing protection anytime your doing that.

Fiberglass in your lungs is in your lungs for like 10K years...

damn I didn't know that!!

Is appropriate protection a normal mask with that little plastic piece on the front, or ventilator stuff?

Yeah Fiberglass takes forever to degrade....

Check the packaging on the mask to make sure its compatible.. If you dont have the packaging, go invest in a new one thats rated for fiberglass.. Your lungs are worth it.. [ya only got two]

And dont forget about eye protection especially if you wear contacts..

I always put on my respirator and googles and chase the dogs around the house going... "Luuuuuuuuke... I AAAAAAAM YOUR FATHER"!

Cheap fun..

hA!

The paper masks do nothing more than make you feel better, IMO. Unless a mask fits tight against the face you'll just be pulling air in from around the edges. Get a rubber mask, either with cartridges, or a paper element in the middle. The type of filtration depends on what your hazard is. But the important thing is that the mask makes an airtight fit on your face.

I agree Nate..

I have one of those WW 1 looking respirators that will stop particle penetration 100% and they are WELL worth the money.

One can never be too safe in that respect.

Go up first thing in the AM before the attic gets a chance to heat up. You will never it cool enough with any fan on a sunny day.
