Extending electric wire when moving appliances

I'm remodeling a kitchen. There is a 240 line for a wall oven already in place. I want to move the wall oven to a new location but the existing wiring isn't long enough to reach the new location. Can I splice extra wire with a junction box or something to add the needed wire to get to the new location? Is this legal code? Is there anything special I would need to do to accomplish this (other than turning off the breakers, etc)?

I'd prefer not to run a totally new line from the breaker box just to move the appliance. Any thoughts?

If you have4 wire cable, then you can splice the wire and extend to the new location.
If you have 3 wire cable, then code prohibits extending the wiring, and new wire should be run to the oven.

Great. I haven't checked what wire I have yet. But if I have 4, I can just splice it inside a junction box anywhere? Are there restrictions about where to do the splicing or where a junction box is allowed to be?

The junction box needs to be accessible, not buried in a wall.
