Drywall over old concrete/block textured wall

Hi all,

Our concrete/block textured walls have bad cracking and chipped areas. So, we decided to smooth them out with drywall (90 min) in preparation for an orange peel spray on texture. We were planning to prime and paint the texture.

After giving it some thought, I am not sure we like orange peel texture enough to use it. What else could we do with this new drywall? The drywall is not perfectly smooth, and has blemishes. It is an adobe/concrete house.

Would it make sense to sand the new drywall to smooth it out? Or, would it make sense to put textured paint now? I want something that doesn't make us say that the dry wall layer was a waste of time!

Thanks for advice.

Drywall over old concrete/block textured wall

archsteve,

Have you applied a joint compound directly to a concrete/cmu wall, hung sheet rock directly on it or framed first and then rocked it?

Thanks,

Rory

No, there was already some kind of plaster or something on the concrete. We are just putting quick dry dry wall on top of it. Then, we were going to put some texture. Would a textured paint make sense?
