Driveway Gate - swing open -vs- slide sideways
I need to install a metal ( wrought iron ) driveway gate.
I'm trying to decide if I want one that slides sideways,
or if I want it to open outwards. I want a sliding one, but
my wife is leaning towards a swing open type gate.
That gate will be 12' wide.... If it opens outwards, the
end will be up in the air about 12". There is a small
slope where the fence will be installed. I have plenty
of room for it to slide sideways... but most of the gates
( 90% ) that I seen installed in the local area are all
swing open type. Most of the gates that are installed
don't have room to slide sideways, so that 90% ratio
might be scewed becuase of the fence location and
Anyway... does anyone have any real-world experience
with driveway gates and can offer any pluses or minuses
with one type verses the other?
Thanks - jack
plus: hinges are easier and cheaper than tracks and rollers.
