Drip edge overhang issue

Roofers installed shingles with no overhang over the drip edge. Water runs down the shingles, over the drip edge onto the shadown board 1x2 in front of the fascia and onto the fascia.

How can this be corrected?

1. Remove the first course and reinstall the shingles to be 1/4 to 1/2 inch past the drip edge.
2. Insert a 4-5 inch section of shingle under the existing shingle to extend out past the drip edge end by 1/4 to 1/2.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Standard drip edges will do exactly what you described due to capillary action.
Manufactures have come out with a new drip edge called Rite Flow which holds the drip edge 1/2 - 3/4" off the fascia.
If you read down through this, you'll see they claim you don't need to rip off the existing drip edge.

Organick,
Right but the issue is how.

tcleve4911,
Looks like it would work. It would be about the same as mounting drip edge away from the roof edge by to 3/8 ths. For very low angle or flat roofs some specs mention mounting drip edge away from the edge.
The roofers are currently starting two dormers and for those Im having them mount the drip edge away from the rake and edge and have at least shingle overhand over the drip edge.
