Drilling through floor joist

marly Newbie   Join Date: Nov 2008 Posts: 29	Drilling through floor joist I have a floor joist I want to drill through for some electrical wire. There is already an existing hole drilled for some current wiring that came with the house. The floor joist is a particle board type nailed together. I attached a photo of the joist. marly

I'm not talking about the I-beam floor joists with the knockouts. I'm talking about the one that is nailed together in the picture. It's made out of what looks like partical board. marly

marly Newbie   Join Date: Nov 2008 Posts: 29	Drilling through floor joist I guess the correct name for the floor joist is, "Laminated Strand Lumber". There are two of them nailed together. marly

Gary __________________ Clothes taking longer to dry? Clean the dryer screen in HOT water if using fabric softener sheets. They leave a residue that impedes air-flow, costing you money. Clean the ducting in the last six months? 17,000 dryer fires annually!

Gary They measure 1-3/4" (assume you meant 1-3/4 instead of 1-32/4"). They'are also used exactly how they're used in the picture on pp. 23 in the link you gave. They're buit around the stairs going into the basement. I also have another joist similar that measure 3-1/2" that's labeled iLevel Truss Joist. marly

That is my excuse and I'm sticking by it.... LOL. Follow the guide or find the U.S. version on-line..... Gary __________________ Clothes taking longer to dry? I found on the back side it says, "Trus Joist" and it also says "hole zone". I assume that's where it's ok to drill.
