Door Binding on Door-Stop

I have 3 doors binding badly on the Door-Stop trim on the door frame. These door frames have already been primered and painted.

If I just pull the door-stops and re-nail them to increase the margin between the door and the stop trim it will make a big mess of the frame's paint job?

Any Ideas how to adjust the stops with out removing them from the frame or at least with out messing up the paint job to badly?

If your talking interior doors and the binding is on the hinge side you might try a block of wood and taping the stop out 1/32 or so and put a few new nails to hold it. I might try taking the edge off the stop with a block plane. It would have to be sharp and I would do the top corner with a chisel or just the blade from the plane. sounds like your jamb might have got hung with a little toe- in. HS

i would look at the hinges and see if they can be sunk further into or futher away from the frame to make the adjustment(s) you need. if not, messing up a new paint job is required. good luck!
