Donít grout yourself into a corner

Iíve often heard the expression ďdonít paint yourself into a cornerĒ but Iíve never understood where that expression came from. Usually what youíre painting is walls, so unless youíre Spiderman and you climb walls, it would be pretty hard to go around a room painting the walls and end up stuck in a corner that you canít get out of until the paint dries.

Maybe what they meant was ďdonít grout yourself into a cornerĒ. This makes a bit more sense. Iím not speaking from experience of course, but hypothetically speaking, someone new to grouting whoís really gung ho could end up in this situation. On a side note, I just Googled Ďgung hoí and it seems itís a Chinese expression for Ďwork togetherí and Ďwork in harmonyí. Seems like an oxymoron when applied to a rookie home renovator. In any case when youíre grouting tiles itís a good idea to start at one end of the room and move backwards towards a door or opening of some sort for an easy escape. A less desirable ending would be to end up in the middle of the room standing on one foot on a single tile and having to hop scotch your way to the doorway while holding a bucket of muddy grout water...especially if you donít have window coverings yet and itís after dark and the neighbours can see in.

They used to paint a LOT of floors way back when..... easy to "paint yourself into a corner" that way.
At least you didn't choose to work nekkid....

ahahaha....that would have been awesome entertainment for the neighbours, especially since the guy who sold the house lives across the street in the basement and often stands there staring at the house.

Well I’m glad you’re not speaking from experience.

Can I get your neighbors phone number?
