We have a line of trees over a small creek that runs along the back property line all the way down the street. You can just imagine the mosquitoe problem in the summer.
The neighbors and I all decided to put up bat houses. Found this forum looking for plans.
I heard if we can find some bat poop and used it to put the scent on the bathouse it would attract them easier. Is this true? and where can I get some?
Hi mormile, sorry it took me so long to answer your questions.
Excellent idea to get all the neighbours involved in skeeter control - you should put up tree swallow nest boxes too.
I've never heard about using guano to attract bats. From what I've read there isn't really anything you can do to "lure" bats other than building a nice house and putting it in an attractive (to bats) location.
Is there a better time of year to put them up?
Apparently bats scope out potential new roosting areas for next season in the late summer/fall, so it would be best to get it up by then if you hope to have bats roosting in it the following summer.
