Dirty Jobs Cedar Shingles episode

You have to love the comment of "To always remember to reach with your Left hand.. There's no teeth or anything that is going to bite you." Words to live by, when working around 3 foot diameter cross-cut blades spinning at over 10,000 rpm.

I don't watch much television, so haven't seen it, but assume you are talking about the tv show, and can somewhat imagine what you are referring to. I remember my dad telling about guys making cedar shingles in the 20's and 30's; cut some shingles, cut part of a finger off, cut more shingles, cut off some more meat and bone, etc., to the point that some of them would run out of fingers on one hand, and have to switch hands, so that they could start on the next set of fingers. Unfortunately, from something I read a while ago, the manfacturing process hasn't changed a whole lot over the years.

Google "shingle weavers." Some interesting stuff.
