Direct Buy???

Has any one had any experience through the company "Direct Buy"? Sounds too good to be true. If you have, what is the membership rate? Are you paying an arm and a leg just to be a 'member?'

A search of name "Direct Buy" here would have resulted in this thread showing up. It answers some of your questions. I know I had the same questions as you did.

whoa... a simple post and so many responses and links. My apologies for not doing the search first, that was stupid of me. Thanks for all the pointers, though!

that's cool , you can't search for the word 'buy' here anyways. forum software prohibits it.
all you'd get is a thousand pages with the word 'direct'! lol
BUT! Nathan has posted this cool trick before, try this...
to search the site for smaller words, google like so:

site: diychatroom.com direct buy

and then it lets you find those specific threads.

as we discussed before in other threads, there are differing opinions on it.

Direct Buy does advertise a 30-day free membership. Somehow, I don’t think they will give you 30 days free though.
I’ve thought about going to the “Info session” just to F’ with them. I ended up talking myself out of it because it’s a colossal waste of time.

Glenn Beck used to advertise for them. I looked into it, but the first thing they wanted was my SS#, that turned me off quickly.

My wife and I are Direct Buy members. We joined when we started building a new home, figuring to save a bunch on appliances, cabinets, etc. But while you can surely save money at DB if you're willing to do some work, it hasn't worked out for us.

Many items like tools, small appliances, and electronics are not discounted very much. And in many cases, home delivery is extra or unavailable. So why would I wait 5 or 6 weeks for a Werner ladder, for example, that I have to drive 50 miles to pick up? The military discount at Lowe's or Home Depot is almost as good and I get my ladder right away.

The deep discounts are in cabinetry, large appliances, and furniture, all of which are pretty much top of the line brands. But lead time is weeks on just about everything and you have to pick it up or pay extra for delivery.

You can go to Ripoffreport.com or type in Directbuy/complaints in the searchbar. Initial membership fees are around 3 to $4000 . Guess it depends on how much stuff you need and what hoops you are ready to jump through. Not all complaints will be true, so don't believe every one of them.
