Is it difficult/expensive to replace recessed light trim?

I just bought a bunch of new br30 LED bulbs and noticed that the actual recessed fixtures look outdated. How can I go about replacing this and is it hard? Here's a picture of what i'm talking about. 1 is pointing to that ugly ring around the hole, and 2 is pointing to the actual black insert thing that seems to be attached to some springs or something.

I don't want to replace it with those cool retrofit kits because those are significantly more expensive than the bulbs and I haven't found one i've been completely satisfied with (though I do have a Cree TW one in the shower that's pretty nice). Thanks!

Your pics didn't come up but I don't see it being hard or expensive.

They are pretty simple to replace most are set in with springs and just snap in and out. Go to the box store and look at a new one and you will see what I mean.
