Dark register for toe kick

We just had our kitchen remodeled. The cabinets we put in had to go over an existing floor register so we had to have our toe kick cut out to open up the vent. The hole cut is a 2x14 hole. Our cabinets our a dark deep color and we need a toe kick register to fit that opening. The problem is that the registers we find if they are wall registers don't have vent control or they are not very contemporary looking etc. The only ones I find I like are floor registers but they have no holes for screws or any way to attach to the wall or toe kick. What can a person do to make a floor register work?

If I take a floor register and put it in the toe kick it just will fall out if kicked or so. What do you recommend I do for that?

I suggested the screws in the above post to fasten the register to the toekick.

Oh, I see. I just misread it. So you just recommend drilling my own holes. I guess that is as easy as anything.

If you hired a pro this is what they would do.

Sounds like you're on the right track......

Drilling holes in a floor register, then using screws to fasten it in place is no joke. I have seen this done so many times, even on some very high dollar homes. You could countersink the holes, IF you have a c'sink, use flathead screws, then touch them up with a matching paint for good looks. You could search at the big box stores for an "oval" head screw, which has a somewhat c'sink bottom and would look good in this location. Don't be afraid to get a couple of cans of spray paint, experiment with them to get this register to look good and blend in nicely.
