Culligan Water softner help

Looking for some help w/ a silver series culligan water softner. The house has been vacant for 4 years. They had the valve set to soften the water but unpluged the unit. I pluged it in and hit regen and it seems to work as it was purging water for a good while from the system. I noticed a brown film in the salt tank so I guess I should clean it out good before use??
Any ideas as what to do first? Any good websites. I downloaded the manual but wanted to see what everyone thought.

Culligan Water softner help

Empty the salt container completely and clean it throughly. Disconnecting it and bringing it to a lace you can lay it down facilitates the process.
