Crawl space issue

My wife and I bought our first house a few months ago and I'm trying to get the crawl space in order. The crawl space has plastic laid down covered with a small amount of gravel over top of it, the perimiter is like a small ditch, wich is where water lays even thuogh i installed a sump pump. There are vents but what concerns me is this water laying in the trench.
How can I make it dry down there?
Thanks for your advice.

Crawl space issue

Where's the moisture coming from if the floor and walls are covered? Any moisture should be under the plastic.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere...If it doesnt smell like butt, then it is probably a supply line and not a drain line. Where are you located...sounds like west coast?
