Open up the cover on the opener to see if the plastic gear is stripped out.
Reliece the door and see if it will open and close by hand.

What he said. The nylon drive gear is stripped. Kits available at Sears parts, about $30

Craftsman garage door issue

I have a craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener..Model No. 139.53962SRT1
in which has stopped working. I thought It may have been the nylon gear but when I took the cover off, I found the gears in perfect condition. With the cover off, I tried to close the garage door ......all i heard is clicking noises, thats it!
What could the problem be?

Also, when the remote is pressed, I hear a clicking noise 11 times before it shuts off.

11 times? Do you have lights hooked up? I bet not. That clinking is the light relay telling you something is blocking the safety sensor.

Ddawg16,

You are smart because the problem was a sensor issue. They were not cotrectly lined up. It could've been the kids mesding around

Thanks for the help
