Controlling Green Mold
Wasn't sure where to post this:
We have a home in central Florida where we spend part of the year. There is an attached screen room that develops a dark green mold like covering in the months we are gone. This mold covers both the screen and the vinyl/paint coated aluminum superstructure. I've found that a water and vinegar mixture scrub, followed by a water rinse, cleans it nicely but I'm wondering if there's any easier way? Treatment that might minimize buildup, easier ways to clean etc. Any advice greatly appreciated. Rob |

I've used this stuff and it seems to work very well, don't get the spray bottles shown in the link i'll attach, get the gallon container and use a pump sprayer,it's okay to use around plants as long as you wet the plants before and after use. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/cata...atalogId=10053 |
green mold
Thanks, Canarywood1.
I'll check it out! Rob |
My folks live in FL and since 1993 I have witnessed stuff growing in places that defy explanation. All the fallout from a 12 month growing season of trees shrubs and weeds tend to settle everywhere and set up shop. My humble opinion is that you just can't escape this down there.

If it's green, it is most likely algae. Mold doesn't have chlorophyl to give it a green color like plants. Vinegar is very effective on algae.

members of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Trichoderma can be green to gray green. What you have may not be mold ... just mentioning that mold can be green.
