Cold Room Insulation

I have a cold room below my computer room. The computer room gets very chilly when winter sets in. The cold room is just for storage and for our septic pump. There is no insulation in the ceiling/floor. The ceiling has 5 joists. Would it be best to "Butt" the styrafoam insulation between the joists or nail the insulation to the joist itself? Several different pieces of advise I have been given. And no i am not handy and need an expert answer.

Thanks guys!

Don

I'd fill the joist bays and sheetrock over it. This would be code as the foam board will give off gases when burned.

I, too, would sure sheet rock, and I'd use the ADA (airtight drywall approach) to help keep any air/moisture sneaking into your insulation. Whatever batt insulation you use, avoid fiberglass if at all possible. Use cotton or cellulose (treated w/ borates) or mineral wool.Fiberglass batts are really not very good insulation, and installing them overhead is not good for eyes, lungs, and skin, IMO. I hate that stuff w/ a passion.
