cleaning up spilt pvc cement on slate table

my wife bought a costco slate table. When i put it together it said it was sealed. Anyway my buddy has been helping me with some electrical on a built in bbq and the other day I came home and he had spilled some clear pvc cement on the table. It was all dried out so I quick covered it with some building materials before my wife saw it. I tried chipping at it with a screw driver but its not working out so well. ANy chemicals i can use to soften this stuff up and get it off?

please help i dont want to face the wrath of the wife

Scrape off as much as you can then use acetone......it should work.

My guess would be you'll need new felt.
I don't know what you mean by, "When i put it together it said it was sealed." You can't seal felt.

Have no idea why I thought it was a pool table.
I'd try powerwashing it first. Less chance of a color change.

I wouldn't worry about color change with that. I would try some paint remover piled on thick. Keep it wet with the remover and shaded so the sun doesn't dry it. Pressure washing might work but it'll probably take out the grout too.

Freeziing and cracking it if you can keep from freezing the slate too much? Lay some dry ice on it or try one of those home wart freezing kits? Watch your hands for freezer burns. Got a friend near a lab that can get you a couple qtips full liquid nitrogen or something?

Superheating it with paint gun?

Please do not regard these as tried and proven expert approaches. I am just brainstorming ideas that might work.

i would try heat gun first, i think you should be able to melt that off and use a scraper pretty easily.

if you go a chemical route, you should probably build a dam around it with plumbers putty or something and pool the chemicals over it so it stays wet.

some of the things mentioned are petroleum based solvents and will almost CERTAINLY discolor the slate.

I would try Denatured alcohol and/or acetone first...i think neither should stain the slate, and both are very nasty stuff that for whatever reason are often overlooked. Wear gloves because they will completely dry your skin out instantly.

right, because entrapped distillates in a solid putty form that may have minimal leaching that should be superficial is the same thing as dumping liquid petroleum distillates on porous stone.

Go get a can of clear PVC primer! (NOT PURPLE!) It'll dissolve it the best!
