Chips in slate hearth

Just curious if anyone knows a method that might repair small chips (dime sized) in a slate hearth. The chips aren't very deep, probably less than 1/8". The only thing that comes to my mind is some sort of a colour matched epoxy. A crayon or something might work, but wouldn't bring the surface back to flush.

Thanks
