cheap fence 4 acres

I would like to know how much it would cost to put up a cheap fence around 4 acres?

Depends what you want the fence for (privacy, livestock, etc..)

Are you planning to put it in? Otherwise you can call some fencing contractors for quotes.

This is a do it your self site--so all you need is the cost of materials and the rental cost of a post hole digger---

What is the fence for?

I'm sure you have noticed, but not all fences are the same---so give us a clue and someone will give you a hand---

$5.00 for the charger at a yard sale, $11.00 each for 650 ft. rolls of 6 wire electric poly fencing. That's all it cost us.

...of course, if you don't want an ELECTRIC fence.....

A couple of dollars if you order off the "dollar menu".

Who can afford anything more than that nowadays?????

I haven't had a restaurant meal in a while---

Now--back to your fence---What kind and for what purpose?

Well depends on the cost to diy vs contractor. I will have chickens but probly have a smaller fenced in area. so basically 2 fences one that surrounds 4 acres cheapest I can get dont care the type. Second that will keep dogs raccoons out since chickens will roam around which will probably be half an acre. I I've heard that Coons are very smart and are determined to get in and eat chickens.

I am still unclear what you are trying to keep in or out with the 4 acre perimeter fence? Or is it just to mark the property and needs only to be sturdy enough for NO HUNTING or NO TRESPASSING signs? Erosion fencing? How many gates are you going to have to build into it and of what type. What kind of soil do you have to dig in for the posts? Are you bound by any code or permit issues as to type of fencing allowed? How long does it need to last and what kind of time and money maintenance commitment can you make to it?

Raccoons are indeed clever and very strong for their size so it is good you are approaching the area for the chickens separately. I took care of a goat ranch in my college years during summers and of all things ferile cats were also hard on the chickens the ranch owners raised. Hopefully someone who is raising chickens already will chime in. Domestic dogs allowed to roam at night were the worst predators threatening the goats although their were plenty of coyotes as well. Never lost a goat to a coyote! They didn't seem to dig under fencing with the same enthusiasm as the dogs. Broke my heart when I had to shoot somebody's pet!

And while we might be able to suggest some material alternatives? You have not even adjusted your profile so we know where you are. We also have no idea going rates for things like digging postholes for you or building the fence entirely. You really should get local estimates as our guesses really would not be fair to you or the contractors in your area.

And do you want to do this yourself or only if it is much cheaper than hiring all or part of the job out? Digging postholes for fence to go around 4 acres will make a man out of you but that is certainly part of the job I would farm out no matter where you are and the cost! Someone with an auger could do them all in a day unless you have solid rock to drill into or something. Again, we do not know where you are to help.

Not to beat you up but here is the official party line from the moderators pertaining to estimate requests on this site.

I guess not, no one could compete with your cooking.:)

If you decide to DIY, rent an auger. BTDT.

To fence the southern borber it was estimated to cost $47 billion, so do the math and reduce to the 4 acer fence length your wanting plus the chicken yard an wola, the cost of your fence. I hope that was helpful.
