Celebration FL home rotting - HELP

Hole in the side of my home - HELP PLEASE

All of the trim on my home is rotting.
I recently found out while getting a $25k quote to repair that it was a Georgia Pacific product called "Prime Trim" and there is a problem with this product.

Any advice? The community was built by Disney & is beautiful, but my house trim is like wet cardboard. Do I hire a lawyer or will Georgia Pacific actually do anything??

Many thanks for any direction or advice.

I would do as Mark942 said, and see where that get's you first. They should send out a Rep to check it out. When was your home built? Do you have a Termite protection/bond on your home. Moistutre + Wood = Termites here in Florida. You could get a free inspection from Terminex or any other pest control companies in your area. Hope this helps.

Ditto. Contact GP and see if they are doing any type of voluntary replacement program for this stuff. Insist that a factory rep come to inspect your house and advise you if there is a problem with faulty installation or product failure. But first... sounds like you are in a planned community, so try to spread the word about your problem around, and request to get a speaking spot on the agenda at the property owners meeting. It is almost gauranteed that there are many more owners with the same problem. Compile a list of owners and addresses before the rep comes out, as there is a lot more power of persuassion in numbers than a single owner. Also meet with the developer and try to get them involved in this, since it is a quality problem with their product, and a major name developer who buys lots of product can add tremendous clout to your cause. BY the time you do all this, you will certainly have met several attormeys who live in the development, so see if they can check for pending litigation on this product. Almost a certainty they will find some. This is almost an identical problem to what plagued the Masonite brand siding in the 80's. Your description likening it to wet cardboard is dead on, these products are nothing but glorified cardboard or saw dust mixed with glue and extruded into shapes. Good luck, and be prepared for a long battle.
