ceiling fix

I need some suggestions on how to "fix" a ceiling that was poorly done. The ceiling was sheetrocked with 5/8 inch and then stippled. The ceiling is lighted indirectly and the seams where the sheetrock meet show badly? Also the stippling was not done well. Short of tearing out and doing over does anyone have any suggestions? The ceiling is cathedral and covers approximately 5000sq. ft. We have consided tiling and faux beams.
