Hey I just installed 2 skylights in my Cape Cod, and found out that there is only R11 kraft faced in the finished ceilings and walls. I have 8 inch rafters with the foam baffles. What would be the best solution to improve the ceiling R value? Pull the insulation from in the attic and push new R21 in its place? Blow in insulation, not sure how to do this. Thnaks for any help
It's very hard to add batt insulation to the cavity the way it is. The current insulation is probably stapled to the rafters. If the baffles go from soffit to the top of the sloped wall, you may be able to blow more insulation in.
If you have room between the old (worthless) fiberglass and the roof, blow cellulose over the top. If you don't, take that (w) FG out and blow in cellulose. It is easy to do DIY, if you have someone to sit outside and dump bags into the hopper while you are in the attic sweating your butt off; wear a GOOD dust mask, and have a large fan blowing air in and another one exhausting.
