Can side mount drawer sides be mounted underneath drawer?

I have some full extension drawer slides for a basement storage project I'm working on. One is 18", the other for a big toy bin that is 36". I was wondering if they can be mounted underneath the drawer safely? Or will the slides experience undue wear over time if they are installed this way with the weight in the drawers resting on the slides the wrong way. I was planning on side mounting them, but I'm just brainstoming some different ideas.

Thanks!

They can be, but they won't carry as much weight (half?).

I did a kitchen drawer that way for some large pots and pans.

It's more difficult to get the allignment correct.

If the drawers are heavy they will bend the slides when extended. I wouldn't do it.

That's what I was worried about. I'll just do it the conventional way. I was just throwing some ideas around in my head

Thanks!

They do make bottom mount slides. I'd like to use the self closing Blum hinges on my next kitchen project. Forget what they're called but they are pricey.

Side mounted drawer glides are meant to carry load in the vertical position. The bearings and tracks would not be carrying the load if mounted underneath in a horizontal position.
