Camera battery chargers

The batteries on my camera aren't getting charged, I think it's the charger and not the batteries themselves. I have another charger (for my video camera) with the same plug, but the output on it is 8.4 volts, whereas for the regular camera the output is only 4.2 volts. Will I damage my camera and good batteries if I plug it in for a little while to test and see if I'm right before ordering something blindly hoping it's the problem?

On the flip side, would I burn up a good charger if I plugged the 4.2 volt output charger into my video camera?

I probably wouldn't leave either one plugged in more than a half hour or so, just as a test.

Don't do it! The higher voltage is very likely to damage something and the lower voltage, if it doesn't cause a problem, is useless anyway! I bought a charger, a case and two batteries for my camera at Best Buy for less than $25. Why take a chance!

I don't know if there is one near you, or if their service is good, but my local Batteries Plus will check the batts and charger for free.

Like Wildie said, I wouldn't mix the chargers/device/batts.

The other day i was looking for batteries for a cordless phone and this place was the cheapest i could find.
http://www.atbatt.com/

Some of their prices on other batteries seamed average, didnt notice if they had charges of not.

And i too vote, don't do it :)

Thanks for the replies, and thanks for the tip about Batteries Plus! I do have a BP about 5 miles from my house, and as a bonus, I actually get a 10% discount there!
