cabinet hinges

Anybody know a good way to clean up kitchen cabinet hinges? They are probably 30 years old, pretty grubby, but seem to be structurally sound. Metal, maybe brass. Thank You

Soaking them in vinegar might help. It is a weak acid.

Soak in lacquer thinner. If not familiar with lacquer thinner, it is a very "hot" solvent, obviously used to thin lacquer paint, but very destructive to most other paints. Work in a well ventilated area, and away from any iginition sources.

Of course, , you could also use any of the "green" paint strippers available, the citrus based ones actually work pretty decently, but will probably need a few coats.

Of course, if you are in California, you should not use lacquer thinner, as it has been proven to cause cancer in laboratory rats, along with everything else on the planet , and you would not want the PITA people after you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I soaked and scrubbed and they look great. Now, I plan to spray them w/ a sealer as it is all gone now. Any suggestions? I have in my craft stash Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating. I am not sure if this is the best choice for kitchen cabinet hinges. Here in SC, it's about a million degrees outside w/ 110% humidity and NO IT IS NOT RAINIING. Anything applied w/ a brush is my prefrence, but will spray in one of the back bedrooms if necessary. Thank You
